The Higher Education Finance Working Group invites you to attend a policy briefing on Wednesday, June 27, at 9:00 AM in 2105 Rayburn House Office Building.

Featured speakers will include:

           Welcome and Introduction by Congressman Thomas Petri;

           John Dean, Consumer Bankers Association;

           Scott Giles, Vermont Student Aid Commission;

           Barmak Nassirian, American Association of Collegiate Registrars & Admissions Officers.

Among the questions to be addressed include:

           How will currently-proposed policy changes impact the future of federal financial aid and student loan systems?

           Are incentives and inducements in current student loan systems working for or against the interests of students and taxpayers?

           How can higher education finance policy best address regional needs, such as shortages in highly qualified teachers, doctors and nurses?

           What impact are changes to state financial aid funding creating nationally?

The Higher Education Finance and Student Loan Working Group is a nonpartisan, informal  collective that includes Congressional staff and representatives from several leading public policy research organizations.  The group began in 2007 to address changes in the nation’s higher education landscape since the passage of the Higher Education Act of 1965, and to discuss new policy strategies for meeting the nation’s evolving higher education finance needs.
