Comments to the House Education & Workforce Committee on LMRDA Reform
In conjunction with a Request for Information from the U.S. House of Representatives Education & Workforce Committee, the Lexington Institute submitted comments on how to reform the Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act of 1959 (LMRDA).
The comments focused on “several common sense and overdue actions that can be implemented at minimal cost that will ensure greater union transparency about important expenditures, governance practices, and drive greater accountability and higher standards from union leaders.”
This included calling for secret ballot votes of membership to ratify a collective bargaining agreement or to authorize a strike, more transparent reporting of how union dues are spent, placing a “union member bill of rights” in workplaces, and other changes.
