Conservatives Must Not Squander Free-Speech Victories
The Lexington Institute offered the following comments and recommendations in conjunction with the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC’s) docket seeking public comments on technology platform censorship.
The statement, filed by Lexington Senior Fellow Paul Steidler, says: “There were many outrageous actions and attempts to suppress conservative speech on tech platforms starting even before Joe Biden was elected president.” It commends conservatives for vigorously protecting free speech and finding creative and effective ways to overcome these barriers.
“Conservatives, though, should be wary, if not terrified, or government regulations or new laws to address free speech issues. It opens a Pandora’s box that could take America back 40 years,” says Steidler, a reference to the government-imposed Fairness Doctrine which stifled the rise of so many important media outlets for conservatives.
