Its timing is exquisite, because Marine competencies look well suited to the operating environment of the future. The Marines have an identity that matches what national strategy requires. Their training focuses on fundamental warfighting skills and adaptability. Their technology outclasses that of foreign militaries and is a good fit for the present moment in global history. Their culture continues to emphasize bravery and self-sacrifice. And their senior officers are more politically adept than the leadership of other military services.
