Fact Check: Photos Show Service Members Killed In 2017 Plane Crash, Not Kabul Attack (From USA Today)

Lexington COO Loren Thompson was mentioned in a USA Today piece on the circulation of an image falsely depicting the U.S. service members killed in the August 26 ISIS-K attack on the Kabul airport. In reality, the image, largely spread on Facebook, depicted the sailor and 15 Marines killed in the crash of a Marine Corps Reserve KC-130 cargo plane in Mississippi on July 10, 2017.

Thompson told USA Today at the time of the crash that the aircraft was “one of the safest and most versatile in military history.”
