Postal Service Warns Of $22 Billion Hole From Coronavirus (From The Wall Street Journal)
The Wall Street Journal quoted Lexington Senior Fellow Paul Steidler in an article on coronavirus-related challenges facing the United States Postal Service (USPS), as well as related Congressional proposals and USPS assistance requests.
As the House and Senate debate this, Steidler advocates for additional loans to USPS but that direct appropriations and debt forgiveness should not come without holistic postal reform. “If you do it now without structural reform, you don’t deal with the underlying issues that have led the Postal Service to have years of consecutive losses,” he said.
