UPU Supporting Posts, And The USA USO (From Postal Hub Podcast)

Lexington Senior Fellow Paul Steidler joined the Postal Hub Podcast for an in-depth discussion about the United States Postal Service’s Universal Service Obligation (USO). The USO defines the core mission of the Postal Service, such as delivering mail  six days a week to every address in the United States.

With the Postal Service facing financial difficulties, Steidler said the USO needs to be updated and more clearly defined. “There’s a Presidential Task Force Report that in December 2018 talked about the need to define the USO,” he explained. To determine the USO, Steidler said that a number of questions need concrete answers: “What services is the Postal Service going to provide and how are they going to be paid for?”
