Jordan Brewer, U.S. Department of State, at Capitol Hill Tech Conference
The Lexington Institute was honored to have Jordan Brewer, Special Advisor in the State Department’s Bureau of Cyberspace and Digital Policy, speak at our July 24 Capitol Hill Tech Conference.
Mr. Brewer reviewed how technology policy now shapes nearly every major foreign policy issue, including economic competitiveness, national security, and geopolitical influence. He emphasized the importance of secure and trusted technology networks, defining trusted suppliers as those from jurisdictions that respect the rule of law and maintain an independent judiciary.
Mr. Brewer also outlined the State Department’s work to advance American technology leadership through initiatives such as PaxSilica, greater U.S. participation in international standards bodies, stronger robotics supply chains, and partnerships that help countries adopt trusted telecommunications infrastructure.
As he explained, “This success rests on light-touch regulation, strong intellectual property protections, deep capital markets, and an entrepreneurial culture that rewards out-of-the-box thinking and experimentation.”
