As N. Korea Concerns Grow, Here’s How Little U.S. Is Spending To Defend Against A Ballistic Missile Attack (From Forbes)
The biggest threat to America’s security isn’t terrorism or cyber attacks, it’s the danger a country like North Korea will launch nuclear warheads against the U.S. homeland. One nuclear warhead detonated over a major American city could kill millions. So Washington should be worried that Pyongyang’s erratic dictator, Kim Jong Un, revealed on New Year’s Day that his country would soon test a long-range ballistic missile capable of reaching America. However, although North Korea has never made a secret of its intentions, the Obama administration did remarkably little to prepare. The Ground-based Midcourse Defense system that is the sole means by which the military could intercept an incoming warhead from a long-range ballistic missile has been under-funded year after year. Providing that program with sufficient money so that it can upgrade existing technology and cope with the threat North Korea poses should be a top priority of the Trump administration. I have written a commentary for Forbes here.
