Should The U.S. Slow AI’s Growth? (From The Washington Post)
The answer is an emphatic no, said Lexington’s Paul Steidler in a Letter to the Editor published by The Washington Post.
The letter addressed a February 11 editorial that was critical of Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) in calling for a ban on new data centers, which would effectively halt AI development.
Mr. Steidler said, “The promise of AI, and the perils of living in a world where China leads in technology, should transcend partisan politics. Fortunately, both the Trump Administration and the leaders of the Democratic Party disagree with Sanders on this issue.”
Mr. Steidler included recent comments from House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro in support of AI development. Leader Jeffries said America is positioned “to lead the world in artificial intelligence and pioneer potentially life-changing breakthroughs in medicine and other fields.”
