The Railway Merger That Will Strengthen National Security (InsideSources DC Journal)
The proposed merger between Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern (UP-NS) has received much attention because it would create America’s first transcontinental railroad. This means savings and efficiencies for many shippers, who can send goods across the country faster and at lower cost, and no longer have to wait on significant transfer times, often in Chicago or St. Louis.
The U.S. military, which continues to be a heavy user of rail transportation, will also significantly benefit, thereby strengthening national security. Merrick “Mac” Carey discusses this in InsideSources DC Journal here.
