Why GD’s Electric Boat Is A Pivotal Player In U.S. Security Plans (From Forbes)
The Electric Boat unit of General Dynamics is a global leader in the design, engineering and integration of nuclear-powered submarines. That makes it especially relevant to U.S. security policy during an era of great-power competition. The Columbia-class ballistic missile submarine, all 12 of which will be assembled at EB’s Groton shipyard, is destined to be the backbone of the U.S. strategic deterrent through mid-century. The Virginia-class fast attack submarine, which EB builds in concert with HII’s Newport News shipyard, is by far the world’s most capable multirole undersea warship. These vessels are essential to sustaining a credible defense posture in the years ahead, so the fact that Electric Boat builds them precisely and reliably makes it pivotal to the nation’s security. I have written a commentary for Forbes here.
