“Woke” Generals, The European Technology Wasteland, And Iran A Paper Tiger: Podcast With Mac Carey
Lexington CEO Mac Carey appeared on the “Situation Room” podcast on Patriot TV on December 7, 2024. You can watch it here.
Trump transition and the potential “woke” controversies at the Pentagon: President-elect Donald J. Trump personally appointed General C.Q. Brown to be Air Force Chief of Staff and a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Brown is now Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The usual pattern of the American military officer corps is to quickly shift and adapt to the views of a new president, implementing new policies.
Peace deal in Ukraine: There’s a reasonable chance for a ceasefire in Ukraine, and the US has a lot of leverage over the combatants. America needs to do more to shore up our allies in the region like Poland, for instance, with regulatory relief from security constraints so they can get American equipment faster. Poland is buying $50 billion in US aerospace and defense equipment.
Europe as a high technology wasteland: The European Union is fining and thwarting American technology companies through measures like their Digital Services Act, all while Europe itself is a technology wasteland. Europe’s big welfare states, expensive mandates for green energy, and value-added taxes are holding back their economies, and making it hard for many countries to spend adequate amounts on defense. The American wealth machine is pulling further away from Europe economically, and now there is a move by the EU to start restricting US aerospace and defense sales on the continent.
Iran a paper tiger: The 15 months since the October 7th Hamas attack has resulted in a remarkable Israeli triumph. Hamas and Hezbollah have been utterly defeated, while Iran has been exposed as a paper tiger. The Iranian drone and ballistic missile attacks on Israel demonstrated that Israeli, American and Western ballistic missile defense systems work, and that message has no doubt been received in China. And now there is a good chance that Saudi Arabia can be brought into the Abraham Accords.
America’s Defense Export Prowess: Demand for American aerospace and defense products is seemingly unlimited, as shown by the success of the F-35, THAAD and Patriot programs. There has been an extensive public-sector defense industrial base in America since World War Two, and that excess capacity may have to be used if tensions continue to rise internationally.
